Fast food chain restaurant locations – 2024 & 2026

The Thriving Perth Portal has been updated with new spatial data and indicators examining the distribution, accessibility and clustering of major fast-food chain outlets across Perth.

We have created spatial datasets of major fast-food chain outlets for 2024 and 2026, enabling changes in Perth’s fast-food environment to be examined over time. The datasets include 14 major chains: McDonald’s, KFC, Hungry Jack’s, Subway, Red Rooster, Chicken Treat, Domino’s Pizza, Grill’d, Guzman y Gomez, Nando’s, Oporto, Patyysmiths, Taco Bell and Zambrero.

Our Close By accessibility analysis, that visualises the number of fast-food chain outlets accessible within a 1 km street-network distance of each residential mesh block, has been calculated for both years.

New change indicators compare the 2024 and 2025 datasets to identify where access to fast-food chain outlets has increased, decreased or remained unchanged.

A fast-food clustering analysis has also been undertaken, calculating the number of other fast-food chain outlets located within 1 km of each restaurant location. This provides an indicator of the concentration of fast-food outlets and helps identify locations where multiple outlets are clustered together, creating areas of potentially higher cumulative exposure to fast food.

Together, these indicators provide a detailed picture of changes in both neighbourhood accessibility and the spatial concentration of fast-food outlets, helping identify communities experiencing increasing exposure to fast-food environments.
